Debón ready for just his second test of 2009

Returning to the Blusens Aprilia structure this year, Álex Debón gets a chance to undertake just his second test of the preseason in Jerez this week.

Despite not having a ride confirmed for the new season until the end of last month Álex Debón will be 100% ready for this year’s World Championship and he arrives at Jerez this week to participate in his second preseason test on his new official Aprilia RSA.

Under the Aeroport Castelló Blusens banner the highly experienced Spaniard returns to Barcelona-based BQR Team whom he rode for in the three seasons from 2003-05.

His 2009 contract was only signed at the end of February, re-uniting him with trusted Team Manager Ricard Jové, but meaning he has had to prepare for the season in less than ideal circumstances – unsure of his 2009 plans for several months over the winter.

Debón tested his new bike for the first time last week in Portugal and immediately impressed with his form and pace, registering competitive lap times from the word go.

Jové believes the former Aprilia development rider will do well this year despite his rushed preparations, the team chief commenting, “Álex was very good over the three days at Estoril. Even though it was a bit of a last minute rush to secure his participation in the championship this year we know he is a rider who always pushes himself hard and his lap times were good straight away. He hadn’t been on a bike for a long time but he was still fast and we are expecting big things from him this season.”

Previewing this week’s testing in southern Spain in his typically straightforward manner, Debón said simply, “Even though we started the preseason very late compared to many of our rivals, due to the reasons everyone is aware of, I still think we will be in good shape at Jerez.”

Debón will test at Jerez from tomorrow, Wednesday 25th March, until Friday 27th March at the Official MotoGP Test and will be back on track in the 250cc test at Qatar on 6th and 7th April – before the season starts at the Losail International Circuit on the 10th-12th April weekend.
