Lower cylinder category testing opens MotoGP Official Test

Dark skies greet 125cc and 250cc riders in Jerez for their penultimate test of 2009 preseason.

The MotoGP Official Test in Jerez got underway for the lower cylinder categories at 10am on Wednesday, despite threatening clouds in southern Spain. The majority of entrants in this year’s 125cc and 250cc categories waited little time in getting out on track, fresh from a recent testing outing in Estoril, Portugal.

Nineteen 250cc competitors and twenty-six of their 125cc counterparts have already undertaken laps of the Circuito de Jerez as of midday, although some of the star names have yet to start up their engines. Bradley Smith and Simone Corsi –two expected title challengers- will wait until Wednesday afternoon for their first turns.

Gabor Talmacsi was the fastest man of the combined 250cc/125cc session as of 12pm local time, with a 1.45.767 lap onboard his Aprilia RSA. Of the 125cc riders, Julian Simon was the early frontrunner in 125cc.

Whilst heavy rain has yet to fall at Jerez, it appears likely before the end of the first day of lower cylinder class action. Combined with blustery winds and cool temperatures, things could get difficult on the opening day of the penultimate preseason test.
