Jack&Jones Team host official launch in Jerez

Ahead of this week’s smaller class test in southern Spain, Sito Pons’ 125cc outfit Jack&Jones Team officially launched their 2009 World Championship project on Tuesday.

Two of the top performers in last year’s 125cc competition, Simone Corsi and Nico Terol, previewed the forthcoming season on Tuesday evening as they attended their team’s official 2009 presentation in Jerez.

Italian Corsi was the 125cc runner-up last year with four victories and three additional podiums, whilst Spaniard Terol finished fifth overall courtesy of a win in the historical first ever Indianapolis Grand Prix and four further podiums, in a highly successful first year for Sito Pons’ Jack&Jones Team.

Given those results, former 250cc double World Champion Pons is delighted to have retained the services of both riders and believes that with some improvements to the team they can push hard for success once again in 2009.

Pons has secured a factory Aprilia RSA for both of his riders (last year only Corsi had such a machine) and has drafted in Pietro Caprara to work as Corsi’s crew chief, having seen the Italian ably assist in Andrea Dovizioso’s excellent 2008 MotoGP debut campaign.

“When things go well there is no need to change too much,” stated Pons. “We believe in the riders we had last year who gave us so much success. On top of that we have made improvements by securing an RSA machine for Nico and by bringing in new technical staff to work with Simone. I think we will be even more competitive this year.”

Meanwhile, Corsi set out his stall by saying, “Last season was great for me, finishing second in the championship and having so many incredible moments, so I’m delighted to be staying with the team. This is a tough sport, anything can happen and there are lots of great riders. I know what I’m capable of achieving, I’ve got superb technical support and I should be fighting at the front consistently. We need to see how things go, but we know we have a winning team here.”

One of Corsi’s main rivals on track this year will of course be his own team-mate Terol, who commented, “I’m really proud to be working with the same people again, as they helped push me towards the top last year. They taught me how to win, how to fight for the podium and how to make the best of my talent. I can’t wait to get started this year.”
