Simon unstoppable on Wednesday in Jerez

Spaniard seven-tenths of a second ahead of rivals on first day of 125cc action.

Bancaja Aspar rider Julian Simon established himself as the man to beat on Wednesday in Jerez, setting the fastest time of any 125cc rider as the Circuito de Jerez opened its doors to lower cylinder category action.

Simon clocked a lap of 1’47.345 late in a session dedicated to the 125cc class, but had been a fixture at the head of the timesheet for the majority of the hour-long outing. Nearly seven-tenths of a second separated the Spaniard from fellow countryman Efren Vazquez, second quickest on Wednesday.

The fastest man in the first combined session, Andrea Iannone concluded the day in third, with KTM rider Marc Marquez close behind. Pol Espargaro continued the Spanish theme to the top five onboard the Bainet Derbi RSA, putting three manufacturers amongst the fastest handful of riders.

The 125cc riders will take part in an earlier specific session on Thursday, following up the combined 125cc/250cc run with fifty minutes of riding from 3pm.
