Relaxed start to final day of 125cc/250cc Jerez testing

Last day of MotoGP Official test for lower cylinder categories gets underway.

Friday’s final day of lower cylinder category testing in Jerez got off to a slow start under sunny skies, with the majority of riders’ lap counters barely reaching double figures before midday.

Those putting in the most laps in the 250cc class had also managed to record the fastest times as the day hit the halfway mark, with Marco Simoncelli and Hiroshi Aoyama leading the way. Reigning World Champion Simoncelli set an early hot lap of 1’43.417 to gain an early advantage over the rest of the field, albeit four-tenths of a second slower than Álvaro Bautista’s time from Thursday.

Scot Racing rider Aoyama, Alex Debón and Gabor Talmacsi were the only other competitors to go round in under 1’44 by midday, whilst Bautista made a late arrival on track after some rear end adjustments to his Aprilia RSA.

Consistent frontrunners over the previous two days, Andrea Iannone and Julián Simón were once again pulling the strings in the 125cc class. Other title favourites had also returned to the track for day three, including Stefan Bradl despite picking up a knock to his hand in a Thursday crash.

Pepe World rider Axel Pons bounced back from his own fall –which led to his absence from testing on Thursday- to resume riding on Friday.
