Barberá recuperating for Qatar test

Spaniard recovering from knee injury incurred at Jerez runout.

Expected 250cc title contender Héctor Barberá has been back on a rehabilitation program this past week, having picked up a knock at the Official Test in Jerez. The Pepe World rider’s training schedule has been centred in the swimming pool, where he has reduced the swelling and improved the flexibility of his injured knee.

Barberá has only recently resumed testing following a back injury that sidelined him for over five months, but has been impressed with his comeback runs in Portugal and Jerez.

“They were three days of good testing in Jerez,” says the Spaniard. “I lowered my best ever time at the track. What we had to do was prepare for the coming season. I had a crash on the fast corner at 190km/h when I was trying a front tyre, and I picked up a little knee injury that meant that we had to stop, but there are no complaints about the bike.

“I treated my recovery time for the back injury like a vacation, resting up for this season. Now I’m back, and from the first moment that I was back on the bike I’ve been fast. We’ve got everything ready, and we’ll be going all-out in Qatar.”

Barberá joins the rest of the 250cc riders in testing at the Losail International Circuit next Monday and Tuesday.
