Last day horseplay for stars on pre-race Thursday

Last day horseplay for stars on pre-race Thursday

Quintet visit Al Shaqab equestrian facility for Commercialbank Grand Prix of Qatar pre-event.

The day before the start of the 2009 MotoGP season, five World Championship riders engaged in some last-minute horseplay. MotoGP stars Loris Capirossi, Toni Elías, Yuki Takahashi and Randy de Puniet were joined by 250cc rookie Gabor Talmacsi at the Al Shaqab facility, located near to the Losail International Circuit, to take in some equestrian action ahead of the Commercialbank Grand Prix of Qatar.

The 800,000 square-metre Al Shaqab centre is the home of a world-renowned breeding program, and the MotoGP stars got to meet some of the famous products of the initiative in person on Thursday afternoon. They were introduced to the Arabian Horses, chosen as the second most beautiful horses of the world last year, and learnt about both them and their stablemates over the course of their visit.

There was also a chance to see the no.1 showhorse in the world before his transportation to America, and to witness horses swimming in the specially-constructed exercise pool.

Capirossi - himself the owner of two horses - described the experience as “an honour”, a sentiment shared by newcomers to the equine world Takahashi and Talmacsi.

The riders will be looking for top horsepower on Sunday at the second MotoGP night race, the first race of the year.
