Big night preparations begin on Friday in Qatar

Big night preparations begin on Friday in Qatar

Waiting almost over for first MotoGP practice sessions of 2009.

MotoGP goes from dusk till dawn on Friday for the opening day of practice at the Commercialbank Grand Prix of Qatar. The maiden practice session of the season begins at 8.30pm local time (the 125cc free practice session), giving the riders a lie-in ahead of their first ride at the Losail International Circuit.

The desert track was a tranquil place during the early afternoon, with the riders and teams opening up their garages and filtering into the paddock. Temperatures as of 2.30pm were a pleasant 28 degrees Celsius, with the track bone dry despite a night of occasional rain. The heat will be of little concern to the eager racers, however, who await sundown for their first chance to make a big impression in Qatar.

The riders will set foot on the asphalt by daylight in the late afternoon, for the traditional photo call for each class taking place on the starting grid. Competitors will be moving around in packs for the duration of the day, owing to a schedule that also includes a compulsory briefing in the press conference room for the individual categories.

MotoGP practice concludes the night’s proceedings as the headline event, as they run their first session under the floodlights since their penultimate preseason test. As announced during the winter, there will only be one free practice session per category on a Grand Prix Friday.

As usual you will be able to watch the Commercialbank Grand Prix of Qatar with a Hi-Res VideoPass, available for €12.95 on Hi-Res and standard VideoPasses for both the opening race and the entire 2009 MotoGP World Championship season are available in the VideoPasses section.
