Simón has final say in 125cc free practice

Bancaja Aspar rider quickest in 125cc FP2.

Julián Simón established himself as the firm favourite for pole position at the Commercialbank Grand Prix of Qatar, heading the timing board in the second 125cc free practice session and besting his previous best time from the first outing.

The Bancaja Aspar rider went on a spree of hot laps with ten minutes to go in the session, taking his Aprilia RSA round in ever-faster times. The Spaniard ended the run nearly half a second quicker than any other participant, with Jack&Jones WRB man Nico Terol and Ongetta Team I.S.P.A’s Andrea Iannone the closest to catching the dominant preseason performer.

Bradley Smith –Simón´s teammate for 2009, needed a late lap to push into the top five, with himself and Ajo Interwetten’s Sandro Cortese the final riders to go round within a second of the session’s quickest time.

Third Banacaja Aspar team member and 2008 Qatari race winner Sergio Gadea, plus Scott Redding, Simone Corsi, Marc Marquez and Jonas Folger, completed the list of the ten fastest riders, whilst there was a crash for Pol Espargaró that left his Derbi machinery unable to restart.
