Barberá makes fairytale return to Motegi

Barberá makes fairytale return to Motegi

250cc series leader back at scene of September injury.

Héctor Barberá left the 2008 edition of the Japanese 250cc round by ambulance, after suffering a serious back injury in Saturday morning practice. He returns to Twin Ring Motegi this weekend on the top of the quarter-litre standings for the first time in his career.

The remarkable turnaround in fortune for Barberá comes courtesy of an intensive recuperation process for his three fractured vertebrae, a re-adaptation to the Aprilia RSA at just three preseason tests and victory at the opening round of the year in Qatar.

There is no room for sentiment as the Pepe World rider makes his Japanese comeback, but neither will there be any holding back, as Barberá explains.

”It’s going to be a strange feeling, of course; I’m going back to the place at which I got injured, and I do so as the World Championship leader,” he says.

”However, all this is just backstory, a detail. I’m approaching this race afresh, as if it were just another round. I want to keep getting stronger from session to session, with the intention of being fully competitive on Sunday. I want to enjoy the race knowing that I have the possibility to win.
