More of the same required for Kallio

More of the same required for Kallio

After his impressive showing at Jerez in the Official MotoGP Test and his two good performances in Qatar and Japan Mika Kallio has reasons to be confident ahead of round three.

The third race weekend of 2009 sees MotoGP newcomer Mika Kallio arrive at the Gran Premio de España in good spirits, with two solid top ten finishes to his name already in the premier class.

At the Official MotoGP Test at the end of March Kallio made a step forward with his new Desmosedici GP9 Sat machine, to put himself sixth on the BMW M Award timesheet and give himself hope of competitiveness at the start of his debut MotoGP campaign, after a previously discreet preseason.

The talented 26 year-old Finn lies seventh in the early 2009 MotoGP standings after two good races at Losail International and Motegi - which both resulted in eighth place finishes, the second of those in Japan achieved from 17th on the grid.

The Pramac Racing rider, who won at Jerez last year in the 250cc class on KTM machinery in somewhat fortunate circumstances, previews this weekend’s action stating, “If someone had told me in January I would finish in eighth position in my first two MotoGP races, I would probably have signed for it. Of course my objectives are ultimately higher, but to arrive at the top level of motorcycling racing as a rookie and be in the top 10 isn’t bad at all.”

“At Jerez I have often found myself at ease with the track and I hope to be similarly comfortable this weekend. My team are putting me in the ideal position to ride well and show my qualities so I want to thank them publically. I hope to give them many reasons to celebrate as the season progresses.”
