Dovizioso plays it cool after first day success

Repsol Honda’s Italian rider Andrea Dovizioso was not getting ahead of himself on Friday after topping the timesheets at Le Mans.

After Andrea Dovizioso finished fastest in Friday’s opening MotoGP practice of the Grand Prix de France, he was keeping his feet firmly on the ground at the end of session that was cut in half by a rain shower on 35 minutes.

Dovizioso lay in second place early in the session before going top at the half-way point, immediately before rain began to fall and he headed back into the pits along with his premier class colleagues.

Though several riders, including Dovizioso, returned to the damp track, the Honda man’s rivals were unable to better his fastest lap, and he chose not to ride many laps in the damp conditions, preferring to preserve his allocation of wet tyres.

Afterwards, Dovizioso was not reading too much into the Friday times, saying, “Well it was not a normal practice because we stopped at the midpoint of the session, but I’m happy because we have made a good start. We didn’t do too many laps, but we have a little bit of information on where we need to improve the bike. Although the lap times are not so fast and the practice was not too important it was still good to start in a positive position.”

He concluded, “I love this track and I have had many podiums here, so my expectations here are always high, but it is too early to make predictions. Especially with the weather being not so good, we have to wait and see what the conditions are like.”
