Smith takes early Saturday advantage

Smith takes early Saturday advantage

English rider makes good start on day two at Le Mans.

Free Practice 2 for the 125cc class at the Grand Prix de France saw Jerez racewinner Bradley Smith top the timesheets with a best effort of 1’45.895, as one of the few riders to improve on his Friday pace following rain before the session.

On a wet drying track Smith notched his best time on the 12th of 13 laps to put him more than half a second ahead of team-mate Sergio Gadea. In a good session for the Bancaja Aspar team Julián Simón rounded off the top three, eight tenths down on Smith.

The pacesetting Englishman’s compatriot Scott Redding (Blusens Aprilia) was fourth and Swiss rider Dominique Aegerter (Ajo Interwetten) was the only non-Aprilia rider in the top five on his Derbi machine.

Stefan Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing), Esteve Rabat (Blusens Aprilia), Sandro Cortese (Ajo Interwetten), crasher Nico Terol (Jack & Jones Team) and Joan Olivé (Derbi Racing Team) all featured in the top ten, whilst series leader and Friday paceman Andrea Iannone (Ongetta Team I.S.P.A) was off the pace in 18th place.
