MotoGP stars fly the flag with local performers

Local flagsmen visit Mugello circuit on Thursday afternoon.

The Gran Premio d’Italia Alice has become a Tuscan tradition in itself courtesy of its annual thrilling MotoGP race action, but there were ten performers with even more history in the region present at Mugello on Thursday afternoon.

The local ‘Sbandieratori’ flagsmen paid a visit to the scene of this weekend’s race decked out in full ceremonial dress, meeting up with the likes of Jorge Lorenzo, Randy de Puniet, Chris Vermeulen, Loris Capirossi and Yuki Takahashi on the home straight to pose for photos and give a lesson in ‘flag throwing’ – part of the Sbandieratori’s traditional dance.

The riders will be back on the grid on Friday afternoon for the opening MotoGP free practice session.
