Aspar trio dominate early 125cc outing

Aspar trio dominate early 125cc outing

Team-mates Julián Simón, Bradley Smith and Sergio Gadea were the top three riders in the 125cc free practice on Saturday in Italy.

The Saturday action at the Gran Premio d’Italia Alice got underway with championship leader Julián Simón stating his intentions again with a hot lap of 1’58.853s to put him at the head of the free practice 2 timesheet in front of his Bancaja Aspar colleagues Bradley Smith and Sergio Gadea.

Simón upped the pace by more than half a second on his timesheet-topping Friday best, to keep him 0.260s in front of Smith and 0.517s ahead of Gadea, with the three likely to do battle for pole position in qualifying later on Saturday.

Chasing the shadows of the Aspar threesome in the brilliant Mugello sunshine were German rider Sandro Cortese (Ajo Interwetten) and another Spaniard Nico Terol (Jack & Jones Team), who in fourth and fifth respectively registered similar times to Gadea.

Also featuring in the top ten were Pol Espargaró (Derbi Racing Team), Lorenzo Zavadori (Fontana Racing), Danny Webb (Degraaf Grand Prix), Randy Krummenacher (Degraaf Grand Prix) and Dominique Aegerter (Ajo Interwetten).
