Bautista in front again in 250cc morning run

Poleman and World Championship leader Álvaro Bautista was on top in the 250cc warm up session, at the end of which drops of rain were starting to fall at Mugello.

Quarter litre class key players Álvaro Bautista (Mapfre Aspar Team) and Marco Simoncelli (Metis Gilera) were again the fastest two riders in Sunday morning warm up in Italy, with light rain cutting their session short. The entire paddock will hope the rain was just a passing shower, though as the MotoGP riders took to the track after the 250cc men the precipitation had increased and they went out on wet tyres.

Bautista’s 1’53.931 effort put him on top, an 0.346 margin in front of his big rival Simoncelli, who this weekend rides in Italy for the first time a World Champion.

The top four qualifiers for this afternoon’s 250cc contest were the top four riders in the warm up session, as Héctor Barberá (Pepe World Team) and Hiroshi Aoyama (Scot Racing Team) were classified third and fourth respectively, just as they are on the grid.

Mattia Pasini (Team Toth Aprilia), Mike di Meglio (Mapfre Aspar), Alex Debon (Aeropuerto-Castello-Blusens), Roberto Locatelli (Metis Gilera), Shoya Tomizawa (CIP Moto – GP) and Héctor Faubel (Valencia CF - Honda SAG) were also top ten representatives.
