Simoncelli honoured with Bruno Ruffo Trophy

Metis Gilera rider receives belated award for 250cc title triumph.

In a short presentation held after 250cc qualifying for the Gran Premio d’Italia Alice, Marco Simoncelli was the recipient of the Bruno Ruffo Trophy in the press conference room at Mugello.

The Metis Gilera rider was awarded with the prize –named in recognition of the inaugural 250cc titlist, who died in 2007- in the presence of Ruffo’s son, Renzo, Dorna Sports representative Javier Alonso and the FMI’s Paolo Sesti.

“This is a special occasion, in particular because it takes place here, in Italy,” said Ruffo upon presenting the trophy to Simoncelli. “It is an honour to give this award in my father’s name, to a fellow Italian in Marco.”

The Bruno Ruffo Trophy celebrates Simoncelli’s 2008 World Championship triumph.
