Aleix Espargaró replaces Németh in Assen

Aleix Espargaró replaces Németh in Assen

An injury to Hungarian rider Balázs Németh means Spaniard Aleix Espargaró will ride for the Balatonring Team in The Netherlands.

Following a crash last week in Valencia during testing, Balázs Németh is injured and unavailable for this week’s visit to Assen, resulting in the Balatonring Team’s temporary recruitment of Aleix Espargaró for the Dutch date.

Despite not having ridden a 250cc machine since last season, the older of the two Espargaró brothers hopes to perform to the highest level possible at Alice TT de Assen, and repeat a top six result like he achieved in Malaysia at the end of last season.

“Assen was actually the first place I ever competed on a 250cc bike, everything went well and I have good memories of that experience,” he noted. “At the moment I’m completely immersed in a Moto2 project and am very pleased with the way it is going, but this 250cc opportunity is very exciting too.”

Espargaró continued, “It has been a while since I rode a 250 but in those months I don’t think the bikes will have changed that much, so we will simply work hard on Thursday and Friday in practice to get a competitive set-up. I’m feeling very motivated as it will be my first Grand Prix since last year. It’s too early to make any predictions but finishing in the top six would be a great result. I’m really looking forward to arriving in Holland, getting to know the team and to start riding.

Espargaró will be the fourth rider to compete on the Balatonring Team Aprilia this season. Gabor Talmacsi rode the first three races for the Hungarian team, but following his departure from the Jorge Martínez `Aspar´ structure the Spanish rider Ángel Rodríguez was brought in as a replacement at Le Mans.

Németh then took over at Mugello and Catalunya but having broken a bone in his left hand last Thursday at Valencia he will be unable to ride this week.
