Second day of Dutch action commences beneath overcast skies

Second day of Dutch action commences beneath overcast skies

The Assen circuit was shrouded in clouds early on Friday ahead of day two’s action at the seventh round of the 2009 World Championship.

The tightly packed top ten in yesterday’s first MotoGP free practice was a good sign ahead of Friday and Saturday’s action at the Alice TT Assen, though the field may become more spread out in Free Practice 2 and qualifying on day two due to the elements in the north of the Netherlands.

Indeed, ahead of the morning practice runs across the three classes there were dark grey clouds overhead at the historic Dutch circuit, with the threat of rain appearing to be a distinct possibility. After enjoying the dry conditions in Barcelona at the last round the riders and their teams may be caused some headaches by the changing weather over the next two days, with the Friday morning temperature also being much lower than on Thursday afternoon.

Nonetheless, this afternoon’s qualifying sessions should prove to be interesting sessions, with Thursday’s MotoGP paceman Randy de Puniet attempting to put himself in front of World Championship leaders Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo and Casey Stoner again.

The MotoGP qualifying session commences at 1.55pm, whilst the 125cc and 250cc runs take place at 1pm and 3.10pm respectively.
