Home rider Bradl previews big weekend

Viessmann Kiefer Racing’s Stefan Bradl knows that his home race this weekend in Germany is the perfect opportunity to kickstart his season.

After his breakthrough campaign in 2008 the first half of this year has been below expectations for Stefan Bradl and the Alice Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland is therefore the ideal opportunity for the German youngster to step up his game.

Bradl was a Grand Prix winner twice last year and one of his total of six podiums in 2008 came at Sachsenring, as he crossed the line in second place behind Mike di Meglio. He has not revisited the rostrum this season, having endured a tough time in the opening seven races.

On his patchy 2009 form to date, which has included two DNFs and a best result of fourth in Japan, Bradl commented, “It has not been a perfect season for me until now because we had some troubles at the beginning and some crashes during practices and I hurt myself, so things have been difficult.

He continued, “From last year to this year I was so happy to stay with the same team and get a new sponsor and our expectation was much higher than it is now. I think we have been going in the right direction in the last three races and step-by-step we are getting closer to the top guys.”

On his hopes for his home GP in particular, Bradl stated, “Sure there is a lot of pressure from people in the Germany and the media, but it’s the same as it was last year. We are in a good condition to get a good result and for me it is important that we close the gap to the top three or top five guys. I want to try and have a podium here.”
