De Angelis relishes silencing critics in Sachsenring

Fifth place in Germany shows San Carlo Honda Gresini man’s dry weather talent.

A best result of 2009 to date gave Alex de Angelis reason to be cheerful on Sunday afternoon, as the San Carlo Honda Gresini rider topped a positive weekend with a worthy result. For the San Marino native fifth place in the Alice Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland was doubly satisfying, due to the opportunity to silence his critics.

"It was a very hard race, but it was very interesting!” recounted the San Marino rider, ecstatic with the result. “I am happy because everybody was saying that I was only fast yesterday thanks to the rain, but now I showed that it’s not the case!”

De Angelis faces a fight for his MotoGP future after the Honda satellite team confirmed the occupancy of one of their seats for next year by Marco Simoncelli. For that reason, results like that achieved in Sachsenring will be crucial for his 2010 participation.

“Fifth place is useful for me in terms of morale and for next season,” admitted De Angelis, who is now level with teammate Toni Elías in the overall standings as both state their case for continuation in Fausto Gresini’s successful structure.
