Simón top man in Saturday morning 125cc session

Spaniard lays down quick time as lower cylinder category undertakes second practice run.

Friday’s unofficial fastest man in the wet, Julián Simón took the official top spot in 125cc practice for the British Grand Prix in a drier Saturday morning session. The Spaniard took his Bancaja Aspar Aprilia round the Donington Park circuit in 1’38.277, just a tenth of a second quicker than second-placed Joan Olivé in the final run before qualifying.

Spaniards occupied the top four places in the session, as Nico Terol and Sergio Gadea took the remaining two places behind Simón and Olivé. German rider Sandro Cortese was the top non-Spanish star in fifth, under half a second behind Simón.

Briton Bradley Smith could only muster the twelfth fastest time, whilst compatriots Danny Webb and Scott Redding were even further down the order in fifteenth and sixteenth, respectively.
