World Champion Di Meglio looking for strong result

World Champion Di Meglio looking for strong result

Mike di Meglio is one of the few 250cc riders who has raced at Indianapolis before.

The reigning 125cc World Champion Mike di Meglio may have a slight advantage over the majority of his current 250cc rivals this weekend given that he is one of the few in the category to have actually raced at The Brickyard.

Whilst last year’s first race day at Indy was disrupted for the 250cc class when Hurricane Ike resulted in the cancellation of the quarter litre category race, Di Meglio ran in the shortened 125cc contest, having qualified second on the grid. Although he finished in tenth place, earning valuable points which contributed to his title win, the Frenchman clearly understands what it takes to ride on the pace at iconic U.S. circuit.

“None of the riders know the track too well because we didn’t get too much dry track time last year so it will be like starting from scratch,” he stated. “In 2008 the weekend went quite well for me before the race, but then I ran into some mechanical problems. This year want to make sure I learn as much as I can on my 250cc machine and have a better race. It is not one of my favourite tracks but it is a great place and I’m confident I can go fast there.”

The Mapfre Aspar rider sits 11th in the standings after 10 races of his rookie 250cc campaign and last time out in Brno he crossed the line in ninth place. “In the Czech Republic I was running with the front group up until I went off track,” continued the 21 year-old, “so this weekend I just want to finish as high up as possible. Every weekend we are working as hard as we can but small errors seem to be taking us away from the positions we want to finish in, so we want to avoid any mistakes at Indianapolis.”
