De Angelis maintains good pace at home

Looking to keep the momentum going at his home event, following his surprise Indy podium, Alex de Angelis looked good on Friday at Misano.

Alex de Angelis impressively followed up his debut MotoGP podium at Indianapolis last Sunday with the fourth best time in FP1 at his home event, the Gran Premio Cinzano di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini, on Friday afternoon.

The San Carlo Honda Gresini representative recorded a best lap 0.792s off the pace set by top performer Valentino Rossi in the session. The best lap from De Angelis came right at the end of the session, as he put an early crash behind him.

“I’m really happy that we have started out so strongly again. We seem to have found a good base setting with the bike that is allowing us to go fast from the first day at pretty much any circuit and that is the fruit of a lot of hard work, which I have my crew to thank for. I felt comfortable from the first lap but we are struggling a little bit for grip at full lean, as you could see from the crash!”

The man from San Marino continued, “The guys did a great job fixing up my number one bike whilst I did some laps on the second one and I was able to go back out on it at the end to improve my lap time even more. The good thing is we are on the pace but we still haven’t found the limit yet and there is room for more improvement.”
