Simón leads 125cc warm up

Julián Simón was fastest in the 125cc warm-up practice at Phillip Island, as his Bancaja Aspar team-mate Sergio Gadea suffered a crash towards the end.

Julián Simón set the fastest time in warm up on Sunday morning, registering a lap of 1’37.797 to take over 0.2s off his qualifying time.

The Bancaja Aspar man could seal the World Championship in Australia later in the day, and led from pole position holder Pol Espargaró and his Derbi Racing team-mate Efren Vazquez.

In cold conditions with heavy cloud overhead and a track temperature of 17 °C, Simón’s team-mates Bradley Smith and Sergio Gadea were fourth and fifth fastest.

Gadea suffered a nasty high-side in the closing stage of the 20-minute practice, and was stretchered off the side of the track. An update on his condition will follow.
