Italtrans STR on track in Moto2

The new Moto2 team will be on track in 2010 with Roberto Rolfo and Robertino Pietri.

Italtrans have announced a new and exciting venture into the world of motorcycle sport, launching a Moto2 team in partnership with STR (Sprint Technology Racing) with Roberto Rolfo and Robertino Pietri having been selected to ride for the team.

Confirming their planned participation in the debut season of the new class, the team will be led by Luigi Pansera and Massimo Biagini, the latter of whom has worked with Carlos Lavado, Raymond Roche, Randy Mamola, Eddie Lawson, Doug Chandler, Freddie Spencer, and most recently Casey Stoner and Roberto Locatelli during his time in the sport.

Turin-born rider Rolfo, now resident in Lugano, is a vastly-experienced rider who was runner-up in the 2003 250cc World Championship. The 29 year-old also has experience in MotoGP, and will now have the chance to transfer his skills onto the Moto2 machine built by Suter Racing. Venezuelan rider Pietri has ridden in the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike Championship this year. Both riders will test for their new team December in Spain, having tested in Italy in mid-November.

Massimo Biagini (Technical Manager STR Racing):

“A dream is coming true. STR hopes to introduce a new method of working, involving 360 degree sponsor, management and technical divisions. We can never thank the Bellina family enough for their sponsorship, on behalf of all the people involved in the project: the technical sponsors, Suter Racing, Regina (chains), Mivv (exhausts), Brembo (brakes), Marchesini (rims) and Dunlop (tyres). Now let’s do our job!”

Roberto Rolfo (Italtrans STR Rider):

“I am very happy to be back into the Motorcycle World Championship, and it’s even more satisfying to do it in Moto2. This was my objective and now I’m very motivated because I’m back in the game and I aim to secure results. I cannot wait to begin the tests. There will be a lot to do because motorbikes in this category will continually evolve. I’m not afraid of the challenge, I look forward to it.”

Robertino Pietri (Italtrans STR Rider):

“This is a great opportunity for me. I’d like to thank Massimo Biagini and the whole STR team, and my fellow countrymen Vito Ippolito and Carlos Lavado. I’m happy and excited by this opportunity and I’m confident that the team will succeed. I’ll be 100% ready to have a great season in the Motorcycle World Championship.”

Italtrans is a leader in logistics and transport of foodstuffs, and already has a presence in the motorsport world having participated in the Paris-Dakar and Pharaohs rallies.
