Late Smith lap tops second practice session
Bradley Smith set the fastest lap in the second free practice session for the 125cc class at Phillip Island, although he was over a second off the Friday pace.
Bradley Smith was fastest in Free Practice 2 on Saturday morning in Australia, but could not match Pol Espargaró’s Friday session lap time of 1’38.435.
Recording a time of 1’39.756, the Bancaja Aspar man was over a second slower on his own Friday best time, and was followed by Nico Terol (Jack & Jones) who clocked a 1’40.037 lap in the final practice before qualifying.
Simone Corsi (Fontana Racing) was next in, 0.256s off Terol’s pace, improving on his Friday session by almost a second while Joan Olivé was fourth, over 0.5s slower than Smith.
Andrea Iannone (Ongetta Team ISPA) went within 0.013s of his Friday time as he clocked in in fifth spot, whilst Friday’s pace setter Espargaró was over two seconds slower than his previous day’s mark at 1’40.525.
Smith’s Bancaja Aspar team-mate Julían Simón played it safe, riding just a single lap as he opted to take no risks ahead of a potential title-winning race on Sunday.
