Bonsey bounces back for Barcelona and beyond
Moto2™ is powered byKenny Roberts Sr. protégé to make 250cc class debut as permanent replacement.
American rider Stevie Bonsey makes his return to the World Championship this weekend, as a permanent replacement for Aitor Rodriguez in the Milar-Juegos Lucky Racing Team 250cc outfit. Bonsey makes his quarter-litre debut in Catalonia after months in the wilderness, having seen a potential ride fall through at the beginning of the year.
The team have prepared an Aprilia RSW bike for the former 125cc rider, who competed for two seasons in the lower cylinder category after a promising start in dirt track racing. The Californian has never ridden the bike before, and the addition of a new carbon swingarm and new cylinders means that his mechanics will also have plenty of work to do in setting up the machine.
Besides the agreement to run Bonsey in the 250cc class for the remainder of the current campaign, the fledgling World Championship team are also negotiating with Bonsey’s representatives to enter him in the Moto2 category’s inaugural season in 2010. It is believed that his name has already been put forward for the new class’ participation list, with the deadline for entries having already passed.
