Capirossi hoping to end 20th season on a high
Rizla Suzuki’s veteran Italian rider Loris Capirossi is ‘totally focused’ for the final round of 2009, as he completes two decades of Grand Prix racing.
Having made his GP debut in the 125cc class back in 1990, Loris Capirossi is set to complete his 20th World Championship season at this weekend’s Gran Premio Generali de la Comunitat Valenciana and he is determined to end the year on a high, after a modest ninth place finish at Sepang last time out.
Capirossi goes into his 299th Grand Prix weekend currently in eighth place in the championship race, but is level on points with seventh placed compatriot Marco Melandri, whilst Capirossi’s Suzuki team-mate Chris Vermeulen is only three points behind in 11th place.
With several riders therefore all in with a chance of seventh, the final round will certainly present a race within a race as the group go all out to get the best finish possible.
Capirossi stated, “I am heading to Valencia in a totally focused and determined state of mind. Last time at Malaysia was disappointing for the race, but the work we did in the dry leading up to race-day was very important and we will be able to use that info in Valencia. I am really confident that we can make a big impact at the last race and give the whole team something positive to take into the winter and on to 2010.”
