Elías still holds MotoGP hope

San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Toni Elías’ future in MotoGP is still undecided for the 2010 season, with a move to the newly-formed Moto2 class having been widely speculated.

Elías qualified in eleventh place for the Iveco Australian Grand Prix, but the focus remains on the Spaniard’s future.

“I’m not in Moto2, not yet,” said Elías. “I think I still have a possibility in MotoGP – this one is with the Honda Scot team. I know the priority is Alex de Angelis, and also the San Marino government is pushing a lot. Anyway, until next week we will be there waiting, and if something is wrong we will get the chance.”

Returning his focus to Phillip Island, Elías was muted in his assessment of how his weekend had progressed.

“It has been much better than yesterday,” he said of his Saturday faring. “We improved a lot, but not enough. Eleventh position is not a good position but anyway, I will try to start well and try to follow the riders in front. We know it will be a difficult race for us, but we’ll try to go to Malaysia with the maximum amount of points we can get.”

“This is a difficult track, especially on the traction side. Normally we have this problem but here the problem increased and we suffered a little bit more. We will think more before tomorrow and we will try to find a solution to improve a little bit.”
