Espargaró relishing second World Championship chance
Aleix Espargaró made a superb Grand Prix comeback in fourth place at Assen as a replacement rider for the Balatonring Team and is delighted to have been called up again for Sachsenring.
This weekend’s Alice Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland sees the smaller classes returning to competition after a short break and one highly motivated participant in the 250cc category will be Aleix Espargaró, who is to make another substitute appearance for the injured Balázs Németh in the Balatonring Team.
The Spaniard got his first GP ride of 2009 at Assen after Hungarian rider Németh was injured in testing and with Espargaró crossing the line fourth in the Dutch contest the team are sticking with him for Germany.
“After the race in The Netherlands I really want to get back on the 250cc bike because I enjoyed it so much there. Now I have a new opportunity in front of me and I want to make the most of it, like I did two weeks ago. Sachsenring is a small circuit and quite slow, where there are normally great races, so I want to keep on enjoying my riding in Germany this weekend.”
Having achieved fifth place in the Extreme/Moto2 class last Sunday in the latest CEV (Spanish national championship) meeting, Espargaró added, “I have been testing a Moto2 bike again and over the weekend I was riding it at Valencia in the CEV race. A few months ago I was not even competing and now I’m really busy so I’m enjoying the Moto2 project and my substitute GP appearances for the Balatonring team. I just hope we can keep things going as well as they have been up until now.”
