Folger aiming for top five after RSA debut
The ambitious young German rider is targeting success in 2010 after a very strong first ride on the Aprilia RSA in Valencia last weekend.
Jonas Folger’s victory in the final round of the CEV Buckler Spanish Championship at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit on Sunday was a strong first outing on the RSA, as the 16 year-old won the race.
Intended as an opportunity for Folger to become acquainted with the machine he will ride next season for Ongetta Team I.S.P.A., he took victory as a weekend of work on getting comfortable with the bike paid off.
“The intention of the weekend was to test my new bike for next year, the RSA. It was also to get a feeling so we can make a good start in the winter test,” explained Folger. “The bike is not so easy, but we worked all weekend on the setting and tried every different position. At the beginning it was very difficult, but in the warm up we found a good setting.”
Having finished 12th overall in 2009 in his first full season in the 125cc World Championship – a podium at Le Mans included – Folger is aiming to make the leap to challenge for a top-five spot in 2010.
“I’ll ride with this team again because I am very happy, and the team is fun so it’s good to stay here. I also had good results this year so for next year I think I want to make the top five,” he said. “I want to improve, so I tested the RSA at Valencia to see what the better bike is for next year. The important is to find the right setting and to use it throughout the year at the different tracks.”
