Legends prepare for Laguna Seca SuperKart Exhibition

Tuesday, 30 June 2009

MotoGP Legends Eddie Lawson, Wayne Rainey and Kenny Roberts Sr have been practicing for their Yamaha SuperKart exhibition ride this Thursday.

Last Friday at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, three MotoGP Legends, Kenny Roberts Sr., Eddie Lawson, Wayne Rainey and their crews took to the track to shake down their Yamaha SuperKarts in preparation for their Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix exhibition event.

Valentino Rossi, who will drive with the three former multi-World title winners on Thursday at Laguna, was of course unable to attend the practice as he was busy fighting for the 100th GP win of his career at Assen. Likewise Rossi’s former team-mate Colin Edwards, who will oversee Thursday’s activities as the Grand Marshal for the SuperKart event, was also tied up in The Netherlands, achieving fourth place at the TT.

“That’s the most uncomfortable thing I’ve ever driven!” quipped the ever dry Roberts when asked for his thoughts on the SuperKart machines.

Meanwhile, having tested the SuperKart which Rossi will drive, Lawson enthused, “I cannot believe its perfect right out of the trailer.” Rainey spent the session testing his own SuperKart and like Lawson was highly satisfied with the results.

The Yamaha SuperKart exhibition will take place on Thursday 2nd July at 3.30pm local time and is free for fans to attend, whilst the Laguna paddock will open up to spectators at 1.00pm. The more serious business of Free Practice 1 at the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix commences at 1.55pm local time, (9.55pm GMT, 10.55pm CET) on Friday 3rd July.
