Leader Lorenzo confident and fit for round five
MotoGP World Championship leader Jorge Lorenzo is raring to go ahead of the Gran Premio d’Italia Alice.
Following his stunning performance at Le Mans which gave him his second MotoGP victory of the year and the lead in the general standings after four races, Jorge Lorenzo is simply hoping for a good points haul this weekend at Mugello.
Whilst the Fiat Yamaha rider recognises the special qualities of the Italian track, where he has a good record from his 250cc days including a 2006 victory from pole, Lorenzo crashed out on his maiden MotoGP Mugello visit last year and is keen to make amends for that.
Riding for a team based in Italy and sponsored by such a famous Italian brand Lorenzo has had promotional commitments this week, but after inaugurating the Fiat Open Lounge in Milan on Sunday he will watch his beloved Barcelona football club in the UEFA Champions League final in Rome on Wednesday night.
Previewing round five he commented, “Mugello is, along with Phillip Island, one of the most beautiful circuits that we race at. I love it. I am feeling very confident after our good race in Le Mans. We have had some very strange races with the weather conditions and I would never have expected to recover 24 points in one go.”
“Now we arrive in Italy as leaders and we hope the weather will be better, but the most important thing is that I am confident and feeling fit. Last year was not easy for me; I already had problems with my ankles and then I crashed when trying to pass Andrea Dovizioso. Mugello and Montmeló were horrible for me and I finished that period of the season having taken no points. This year, just to take some points at this track and at Catalunya will be an improvement and that’s my aim.”
