Marquez: “I’d settle for a home podium”

One of the home riders at the Gran Premi Cinzano de Catalunya and a podium finisher already in 2009, Mark Marquez is one of the outside shots for a maiden victory at the upcoming 125cc World Championship round. The Spaniard is keeping his ambitions in check to some degree, but nonetheless has high hopes for the sixth race of the year.

“A victory is always a difficult thing to do, and at the moment I would settle for a podium,” said Marquez, one of the form riders in recent weeks.

“The home fans give you the push that you need, and I am hoping for a good race in order to make them happy. Above all, though, I want to finish the race and take some points for the championship.”

The youngster’s last rostrum was at the recent Jerez round, following which he has taken pole position and a fifth place from the last two races. More experienced in his sophomore year, he also puts the improvement down to the efforts of his Red Bull KTM team.

“KTM are doing a great job, and you can see that in the bike and the results. I think that we have the package and the team to be up at the front,” he concluded.
