Red Bull MotoGP Academy restructured for 2009 season
Youth initiative joins forces with Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup.
The highly successful Red Bull MotoGP Academy, which has helped riders such as Casey Stoner, Dani Pedrosa and Toni Elías achieve success in MotoGP, is this season joining forces with the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup to further increase riding training via the junior competition.
Directed by Alberto Puig, the Red Bull MotoGP Academy staff will be incorporated into the 2009 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in various roles, supporting the young riders as they strive for glory and the opportunity to eventually make the step up and ride full time in the 125cc World Championship.
Riders such as Jonas Folger and Cameron Beaubier, for example, will this year undertake their first full World Championship seasons having been supported by the Red Bull MotoGP Academy in 2008.
Puig’s team of dedicated team of technicians will work closely with the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup staff to educate, train and support the talented youngsters.
Rider coaches Raúl Jara and August Auinger were present at the recent Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup preseason tests at Estoril and Jerez, assisting the likes of Rookies Cup Project Leader Niki Ruhstorfer and Technical Director Alex Batlle, in encouraging the young riders.
Throughout the course of the eight-race 2009 Rookies Cup season the Red Bull MotoGP Academy staff will closely follow the riders as they train and race, complimenting the good work already taking place, helping the Rookies to strive for ever greater competitiveness.
As the season progresses the best emerging talent in the competition will be considered for selection to attend performance clinics in Spain at the Academy’s existing facilities. Those riders selected will benefit from additional fitness training and off-road training (motocross, supermoto) sessions as favoured by so many of the MotoGP stars they hope to emulate.
