Redding describes feeling of another home podium

Blusens Aprilia rider Scott Redding will always have fond memories of Donington Park following the World Championship’s departure from the East Midlans circuit last weekend, with a move to Silverstone scheduled for 2010.

The 16 year-old from Gloucestershire in the south of England announced himself on the World scene last year when he became the youngest ever GP winner in history with a sensational British Grand Prix 125cc win – and although he could not repeat the trick this year he still rode superbly to place third in a rain-interrupted race.

Looking back over the weekend he stated, “It feels great because at the beginning of the weekend we struggled a little bit, but the team worked really well. We managed to get a good set-up in the dry and the rain, although I never expected to get a podium again because there was so much pressure at the beginning of the weekend. I was trying my hardest but the times were not coming.”

“After the race got red flagged because of the rain the team said to me it’s now or never, it’s five laps, I’m nowhere in the championship so I can just go for podiums and see what happens.”

On the historical significance of his achievement he added, “As it was the last ever visit to Donington it was great to have a British rider on the podium and I know it has made a lot of people happy. It is very good for me personally too because I’ve been struggling a lot this season and it takes some pressure off me.”
