Schwantz pleased to give Moto2 bike a try
Former 500cc World Champion Kevin Schwantz undertook demonstration laps at Indianapolis on a BQR Moto2 bike on Saturday evening.
At the end of Saturday’s World Championship proceedings at the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix there was a guest appearance on track by a highly popular figure, as 1993 premier class title winner Kevin Schwantz went round the MotoGP track at the famous American venue on a BQR Moto2 prototype.
The former Suzuki star set a decent lap time and immediately afterwards he gave his thoughts on the new 600cc machine to motogp.com, saying, “It’s a new project, it needs a little bit of work with settings as far as suspension goes, but as far as how nicely the bike goes and the power it delivers I think it is an amazing package right now. I’m convinced Moto2 is going to be great for the sport.”
He then added, “For me it was all just for fun, but the new Moto2 bike should make for some interesting racing. I think whether you are a bigger guy like me, or whether you are smaller like Dani Pedrosa or Marco Melandri, if you are good enough you can make up for your size on a bike like this.”
In addition, test rider Shogo Moriwaki also undertook laps on the Moriwaki MD600 bike which was first presented earlier this year at the Polini Grand Prix of Japan, as the Japanese firm continue with their plans to participate in the forthcoming Moto2 class in 2010.
Schwantz will be back on track on Sunday to fire up the Indianapolis crowd with some more display laps before the MotoGP race on the Suzuki RGV500, which he rode to glory in his World Championship winning season in 1993 and which has not been ridden since that year.
