Smith puts name behind British racing project

Keeping true to his roots, 125cc title challenger Bradley Smith has been embarking on a new project in 2009 outside of the World Championship. The Bancaja Aspar rider has gone back to his national series to help support some of his fellow British talents come up through the ranks, with the formation of the KRP-Bradley Smith Racing team.

A six rider squadron is supported by Smith’s time and efforts in the British 125cc Championship, where the teenager started his racing career before moving to the international stage. He told motogp.com about the impetus behind the project.

“It’s my old team from back in 2005, and I think it’s good to support something like this with funding and sponsorship. The owner of the team lives near to me, and we’d talk a lot after races, eventually coming up with this idea.”

So far Smith has helped to raise the profile of the team and aided their purchase of a new truck, with considerable success for the riders themselves at the start of the year. KRP-Bradley Smith Racing’s Martin Glossop has won the first three races of the current season, and all six of the lineup are pushing to enter the 125cc World Championship round at Donington Park.

Smith currently leads the 125cc World Championship after taking his second victory of the year at Mugello. He holds a 3.5 point advantage over teammate Julián Simón heading to the Spaniard’s home track this weekend.
