Takahashi ready to push in rookie bow

Japanese rider Yuki Takahashi will make his MotoGP debut at next weekend’s Commercialbank Grand Prix of Qatar, aiming to emulate Scot Racing predecessor Andrea Dovizioso’s stunning 2008 ride at the Losail Circuit. Takahashi warmed up for the night race with his final testing run in Jerez, after which he reflected on his readiness for the season-opener.

“This year there is less testing, so I probably need a little bit more time to fully understand the bike. The next time I ride will be the Qatar race, so I have to push again,” acknowledged the MotoGP rookie.

“I made something similar to a qualifying simulation and I did quite a fast time at this latest test. I pushed hard, and what’s better is that my fast lap was done on my own. I’m very happy about this,” he added when asked about his 14th place finish in the BMW M Award timed session, his first competitive MotoGP action.

“The top three or four were very fast, but from fifth down to me there is not such a big difference, so I’ll be working my way up this group step-by-step.”

Takahashi placed in the top ten at every one of his visits to Qatar in the 250cc class.
