Talmacsi: “Now I believe that I have a place in MotoGP”
Barcelona test gives MotoGP newcomer confidence with Honda RC212V.
An entire day of testing was welcomed with open arms by Gabor Talmacsi on Monday, as he looked to further understand the Honda RC212V in only his fourth time on the Japanese satellite machine.
The Scot Racing rider was only confirmed as the team’s latest addition on Friday afternoon, leaving him with little time to acclimatise to his new bike. After a tough weekend, a more relaxed day of riding was just what the Hungarian needed in order to prepare for the coming races.
“In the race everything was too quick. I looked at my pitboard and then right away I arrived at the braking point. Today I was more controlled all the time,” he said at the Barcelona run-out, at which he made a major breakthrough in self perception.
“It’s very important to always improve my lap times. I feel more strong about myself after testing. Now I believe that I have a place in MotoGP. The goal for the next race is to not be the last person to cross the line, but right now it’s not so easy after only riding for the first time on Friday.”
Talmacsi has already put bigger handlebars on his wishlist for the Alice TT Assen in just over a week’s time, and the test also allowed him to work on aspects unique to 800cc machinery.
”We tried different setups, especially with front forks. We were working with electronics and traction control, which at the moment are difficult for me to understand. I’m getting more and more feeling and more confidence with the bike, and I’m very positive for the future,” said the former 125cc World Champion, fast tracked into the premier class after just three races in 250cc.
