Talmacsi on his remarkable year to date
A new arrival in the premier class this year, Gabor Talmacsi recently took time out of his busy schedule to tell motogp.com how his rollercoaster 2009 season has gone so far.
Scot Racing’s MotoGP rookie Gabor Talmacsi arrived in the premier class earlier this season in a surprise move, which saw him take the step up into the big time six races into the year.
Having taken the 125cc World title in 2007, Talmacsi stayed in the single cylinder class last year and then moved up to the 250cc category at the beginning of 2009, but a dispute with the Balatonring Team saw the two parties go their separate ways and the Hungarian star found himself all of a sudden making his MotoGP debut - on a satellite Honda RC212V MotoGP machine in Barcelona in June.
Commenting on his experiences so far this year, with eight premier class Grands Prix now under his belt, Talmacsi told motogp.com, “I started 2009 in the 250cc category with the Balatonring Team, which Team Aspar takes care of, and at the start everything was OK, but then some difficulties came. Personally I don’t have any problem with the team, or with Jorge Martínez (Aspar manager), we have very good memories together. I was there for two years with a lot of success.”
“Then my manager organised this possibility in MotoGP for me. I arrived in MotoGP, which was my dream, but to tell the truth it has been a difficult time for me because I was happy, but I also felt a lot of pressure. In 2008 I stayed in 125cc and then almost immediately I moved to MotoGP, so it’s not an easy job.”
On his very first MotoGP race weekend at the Catalunya circuit, he added, “It was a mixed feeling. I couldn’t believe it, it was like my dream. I started the engine, I felt a lot of power. I went out from the pit lane, with lots of mechanics supporting me. But the problem was that for me everything was coming so quickly, I had it confirmed that I could start on the Friday, just before the practice, so I was little bit tense.”
After failing to register a single point in his first three Grands Prix - including a DNF at the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix in California - Talmacsi has since recorded five consecutive point-scoring results, of which he says, “At Laguna I had difficulties to understand the bike, because it was so fast, and to understand the conditions, the track is not so easy. But after Laguna, from Sachsenring, everything is becoming, not easier, but normal.”
