Hiroshi Aoyama visits RCD Espanyol
250cc World Champion Hiroshi Aoyama was awarded honorary membership of RCD Espanyol on Wednesday, as he met Shunsuke Nakamura at the club’s Copa del Rey match with Getafe.
Hiroshi Aoyama, who will ride in MotoGP with the Interwetten Honda MotoGP Team in 2010, attended RCD Espanyol’s Copa del Rey match with Getafe in Barcelona on Wednesday
Honoured earlier in the week for his 250cc World title achievement with an official personal letter of recognition from the Prime Minister of Japan, Mr. Yukio Hatoyama, Aoyama displayed his FIM trophy to Espanyol fans at the Estadi Cornellà-El Prat.
Austrian brand Interwetten.com – in Spanish Interapuestas.com – is the main sponsor of not only the Interwetten Honda MotoGP Team for the 2010 season, but also of RCD Espanyol, and Wednesday’s game provided the perfect opportunity for Aoyama and Nakamura to meet.
Aoyama, who lives in Barcelona, appeared before kick-off in the kit worn by Nakamura for Espanyol and with his World Champion medal as well, as 20,000 fans created a warm atmosphere.
After the game a press conference provided Aoyama with the opportunity to present his World Championship winning helmet to Nakamura, receiving an honorary membership to the club in return.
Following the post-season Valencia test, where Aoyama worked on his Honda, he will again participate in a test planned for December.
