Pons Racing end 2009 with Almeria test
The Spanish Moto2 team conclude their 2009 activity with a two-day test at the Almeria circuit.
Pons Racing’s preparations for the first Moto2 season in 2010 continued this week in Almeria, as both Axel Pons and Sergio Gadea further tested the Pons Kalex prototype at the track.
Sharing the circuit with other Moto2 teams, the two-day test was affected somewhat by weather conditions with the track. Low temperatures on Monday added to moisture on the asphalt from the previous day’s rain, but on Tuesday the situation improved and both Pons and Gadea were able to continue work on the Pons Kalex prototype.
Pons and Gadea again shared the prototype, as they did at Valencia last week, with the former completing 45 laps and registering a best lap time of 1’39.9, whilst Gadea made 30 turns of the track and posted a quickest time of 1’39.7.
Scott Redding also tested the Pons Kalex machine in Almeria, after Julián Simón, Mike di Meglio and Héctor Faubel all rode the bike at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit last week. The British rider reported similarly positive feedback as well.
“The prototype will be travelling to Germany, where we will make final adjustments. We’ll also begin work on the second bike with different specifications,” explained Team Manager Sito Pons. “Therefore, at the next test we will be complete, with both bikes for the two riders plus all the technical staff who will form our new project in Moto2 in 2010. I’m very satisfied with how everything is working with the bike, and I think these two tests have been very positive. We’re taking this small break over Christmas with a much clearer picture.”
The Pons Kalex team will return to the track at Jerez on January 21 and 22.
