Lukas Sembera recovering from serious injury
Czech rider Lukas Sembera, who suffered a serious accident the weekend before last at Brno, is beginning rehab to regain movement in his legs.
The 16 year-old Czech rider Lukas Sembera, who broke his fourth and fifth vertebrae in a crash at the ‘Olympia Supermoto night show’, the weekend before last, is beginning the rehabilitation process in order to allow him to walk again – with a future riding career in serious doubt.
The Matteoni Racing rider underwent surgery on his back last week in a Brno hospital, and although the operation was a success those around him remain cautious about his chances of riding again.
Matteoni Team Manager, Paolo Tajana, commented, “I spoke with Lukas’ father and with Massimo Matteoni and there was a meeting with all the doctors from Clínica Mobile. The operation in Brno was undertaken 100% correctly. The spinal column is intact and therefore there is a good chance that Lukas will be able to walk again.”
He continued, “In the next few days it will be necessary for an intense period of physio to commence and we are evaluating whether he should travel to Italy for that. According to the doctors it will be very hard for Lukas to ride again but it is probable that he’ll regain the use of his legs which is the most important thing.”
From this weekend’s visit to Estoril for the bwin.com Grande Premio de Portugal, until the end of the season, the young French rider Quentin Jacquet will replace Sembera in the Matteoni Racing team.
