Dorna receives Pingüino de Oro

MotoGP rights holders Dorna Sports presented with award in recognition of its work in the promotion of motorcycle racing.

Freezing temperatures and snow did not prevent a crowd of 22,300 people gathering in Puente Duero, near Valladolid, for the 29th edition of the motorcycling awards the Pingüinos de Oro (Golden Penguins), the largest in Europe in the winter months.

During the ceremony the traditional Pingüino de Oros were handed out, one of which was presented to Dorna Sports in recognition of its work in promoting motorcycle racing. Also present to receive their awards were the 2009 125cc World Champion Julián Simón and journalist Dennis Noyes.

The Pingüinos were established 11 years ago to reward individuals and organisations whose efforts and support in the world of motorcycling help raise the sport’s profile.

Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports, received the award and recalled his previous attendance at the ceremony when it was held in Tordesillas. He said, “It is an honour to be at such a great motorcycling event.”

Julián Simón was also delighted to be at the event despite the cold, and enjoyed “a great party” as he acknowledged the public’s applause.
