Tode to front Racing Team Germany’s Moto2 effort

Tode to front Racing Team Germany’s Moto2 effort

Arne Tode will ride for Racing Team Germany on a Suter chassis in the new Moto2 class in 2010.

It will be an all-German affair for Racing Team Germany in the Moto2 category in 2010, after the signing of Arne Tode was confirmed by the outfit.

The 24 year-old has put pen to paper on a two-year deal with Dirk Heidolf’s team, with an option for a third, and will transfer the experience gained in the German Supersport Championship – which he won in 2008 – to the World Championship stage.

“We had been talking for the past two years,” explained team boss Heidolf to “He wanted to ride for our 250cc team. He was riding in the German Championship, and in the middle of the season we sat down with Arne and his chief mechanic Dietmar Franzen and discussed the Moto2 project.”

He added: “We’re a German team and we wanted to do it with a German rider, and saw Arne was a big talent. We saw in the Moto2 tests in the winter with the FTR bike that he was really fast.”

Tode, who is looking forward to the opportunity of competing in the World Championship, said: “It’s a great chance for me to step into Moto2. I have a lot of experience and it will be very interesting to see how tough the Championship is for me. I have experience of Supersport, but I don’t know how hard Moto2 will be. It will be very interesting to see how everyone gets on at the beginning.”

Heidolf echoed his rider’s thoughts: “Moto2 is a great chance for all the teams because it’s a new class with new bikes, and new rules. In the first season we want to finish each race in the points, and then step-by-step we want to move towards the podium and get closer and closer to the top five and then top three. It’s not correct for me to say we can win straight away, but we want to do it, all teams do. We must do the best job and maybe we can do it; we will push hard and work hard and we hope we can get very close to the fastest riders.”

Heidolf also added a word about the plans for testing, and is hopeful of a run-out for Tode on the Suter before the end of the month.

“We want to go with the Suter maybe at the end of January, but at the moment there is nothing fixed,” he said. “They’re looking for a test circuit and Eskil (Suter) will contact us at the end of the week. We will definitely start in the middle of February.”
