Moto2 offers close competition at Montmeló

The test at the Circuit de Catalunya ended on Friday afternoon, with 12 Moto2 riders all within a second of one another.

Friday afternoon saw the three-day test at the Circuit de Catalunya come to a close, with a range of Moto2 and 125cc riders having taken the opportunity to continue their preparations for the 2010 season at the track.

After few opted to ride early in the day, the afternoon was busier, and the Tech3 Moto2 duo of Raffaele de Rosa and Yuki Takahashi both rolled out their bikes, completing 42 and 25 laps respectively. The Japanese rider’s time of 1’49.3 was joint top with Mapfre Aspar rider Julián Simón, on an RSV chassis, and Shoya Tomizawa on his Suter of the Technomag-CIP team. Jules Cluzel (Forward Racing) recorded a 1’49.4, as did Anthony West on his MZ.

Elsewhere, G22 HolidayGym riders Fonsi Nieto and Yannick Guerra both completed just under 30 laps each, whilst Scott Redding of the Marc VDS Racing Team experienced a third day of riding his Suter in his first test on the machine. Mike di Meglio also continued his development on his Moto2 bike.

Of the 125cc riders, Pol Espargaró (Bainet Derbi) was the quickest in 1’52.9 – the only sub-1’53” lap – whilst Championship rivals Nico Terol (Bancaja Aspar), Efrén Vázquez (Bainet Derbi), Bradley Smith (Bancaja Aspar) and Esteve Rabat completed the top five order.

The teams will now continue their preparations for the official test in Valencia, from March 1-3.
