Marc VDS Racing Team launch unique project

The structure that will field Scott Redding and Vincent Lonbois in the inaugural Moto2 World Championship in 2010 has made their official launch in Belgium.

Over 350 people were present to witness the official launch of the Marc VDS Racing Team at the set-up’s headquarters in Gosselies, Belgium last night (Thursday), as the unique project was presented.

2010 will be the first time that the Marc VDS Racing Team will compete in two-wheeled competition, as they enter the Moto2 World Championship with home-grown rider Vincent Lonbois and British talent Scott Redding riding on Suter chassis in the new intermediate class.

The team will be managed by Michael Bartholemy, former manager of Kawasaki’s factory team in MotoGP, who took to the stage personally to thank President of the Marc VDS Racing Team, Marc van der Straten, for his support and passion in bringing the project to fruition.

Mr Van der Straten said: “It is a pleasure to see so many people at the launch of the Marc VDS Racing Team. Our motto is 'share the passion' and I'm happy to have the chance to share it with so many people; not just tonight, but throughout the 2010 season. Finally, I'd like to thank the team for all their hard work and all of you for your continuing support.”

The Marc VDS Racing Team will also be present on four wheels in the FIA GT1 World Championship and the FIA GT3 European Championship, as well as competing in the prestigious 24 Heures du Mans in June for the first time.

Van der Straten added: “We have grown from a small family into one that now includes more than 60 people, all working towards the same aim and all sharing the same passion that I have for motorsport. I'm looking forward to seeing the other teams in action in their various championships worldwide.”

The team’s race debut in the Moto2 World Championship will take place under the floodlights of the Losail International Circuit at the first race in Qatar on April 11th, and their final Test preparations will take place at Jerez from March 27-29.
