Jerez all set to host final Official Moto2 Test

Jerez all set to host final Official Moto2 Test

The closing pre-season Test of 2010 will offer the teams and riders from the Moto2 and 125cc classes the last chance to complete their on-track preparations, before the season starts in Qatar.

This weekend at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit the riders from the Moto2 and 125cc categories will convene one last time before the start of the 2010 World Championship, as they make the final adjustments to the set-ups of their respective bikes.

Scheduled to start on Saturday March 27th and last for three days the anticipation for the start of the new 40-rider strong intermediate class will continue to grow. Those who have performed particularly well in the two Official Tests to date such as former MotoGP star Toni Elías (Gresini Racing Moto2), American Kenny Noyes (Jack&Jones by Antonio Banderas), Colombian rookie Yonny Hernández (Blusens STX) and ex-premier class rider Alex de Angelis (RSM Team Scot) all return to the track once more.

Forward Racing duo Jules Cluzel and Claudio Corti have also impressed in their adaptation to the 600cc 4-stroke bikes and will continue work on their Suter prototypes, whilst 125cc World Champion Julián Simón of the Mapfre Aspar team will be aiming to return to the top of the timesheets.

Thomas Lüthi (Interwetten Moriwaki) has been a consistent performer in the two Tests thus far, whilst Roberto Rolfo (Italtrans STR) made an impressive return from injury at Jerez just under three weeks ago. Tech3 Moto2 pair Yuki Takahashi and Raffaele de Rosa will both be seeking that final step up as well after the rain affected the last time out at Jerez for all riders, and the weekend promises to be a busy, action-packed affair at the World Championship circuit in southern Spain.

This weekend will also see the first use of the Bimota chassis to be ridden by Thai rider Ratthapark Wilairot (Thai Honda SAG PTT) and his Spanish team-mate Bernat Martínez (Maquinza SAG PTT), the latter of whose participation with the team was recently announced. MZ Racing’s Australian rider Anthony West, whose elevation from a reserve to a full entrant was confirmed last week, will be in attendance – he has ridden at both Official Tests and the private meeting at Catalunya in February and has posted very promising times.

Of the 125cc riders, Marc Márquez has set the pace in pre-season with his blistering form on the Derbi machine of the Red Bull Ajo Motorsport team, and the young Spaniard will bid to top the times for the third successive Test.

The pack of riders which has established itself as his main rivals for the 2010 Championship includes Bainet Derbi team-mates Pol Espargaró and Efrén Vázquez and Bancaja Aspar pair Bradley Smith and Nicolas Terol, and all will be attempting to establish the best possible set-ups ahead of the start of the 2010 season, which gets underway in Qatar on April 11th.
